Plan Your Visit

Florida, Season by Season

Winter

November – February

Peak season — and for good reason. Perfect weather, world-class sunsets, and the unforgettable experience of Christmas at the beach. Warm Gulf breezes replace cold winters, and the holiday lights along 5th Avenue South are something special.

Spring

March – May

Shoulder season at its finest. Weather is ideal, crowds begin to thin after spring break, and the Gulf water is warming up. Baseball spring training runs through March in Fort Myers and Port St. Lucie — a bonus worth planning around.

Summer

June – August

Florida’s best-kept secret. Snowbirds are gone, prices drop significantly, and the beaches are far less crowded. Yes, it’s hot — but afternoon thunderstorms cool things off daily, and mornings on the Gulf are absolutely stunning.

Fall

September – November

The sweet spot for value. Crowds are at their lowest, rates are the most affordable of the year, and by October the humidity breaks. Shelling is exceptional in fall, and the sunsets on the Gulf Coast arguably peak this time of year.

Arts & Culture
A century-old artists' colony with 30-plus galleries and the historic Ox-Bow School of Art, affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago.
Insider Tip
Plan around one of the summer gallery strolls, when studios open late and many host the artists in person.
Outdoors
Over 2.5 miles of pristine, foot-access-only Lake Michigan shoreline backed by towering dunes and forested hiking trails.
Insider Tip
The hike to the beach is about a mile over sand — wear proper shoes and carry water, as there are no concessions inside the park.
Dining
Genuine farm-to-table cooking from West Michigan farms, at favourites like Everyday People Café, Marro's and Saugatuck Brewing Co.
Insider Tip
Visit in late summer for the height of the local harvest — that’s when the seasonal menus are at their very best.
